Course Content

Our RYA Powerboat Level 2 + Big boat clinic course is perfect for a new powerboater or a powerboater with a long gap from the sport. You do not need to have completed your level 1 course before you take this course. This Learn to Powerboat course will introduce you to the fundamentals of powerboating. By the end of the course, you will understand boat handling and manoeuvres such as 3-point turns and parking. We will also cover some navigation, staying safe on the water and man overboard.

Our course will begin with understanding the boat and its safety equipment; once we are all ready, we will head out onto Lymington River, where you will understand the controls and how to be aware of other water users. At RLymYC, we believe in trying to get everyone on the water. We have a wide range of craft and experience working with people from all walks of life. We will do our best to adapt the course for the individuals taking part dynamically.

During the big boat clinic, we will look at some of the skills we did on the powerboat level 2 course, but it is a twin-hulled boat with an enclosed cabin; this adds a new challenge and dimension. It aims to help you understand additional challenges when driving different types of boats.

Family
Courses

We offer both adult and junior courses, but sometimes it's nice to learn as a family. We offer the RYA Level 1 course for those looking for this option. Due to the adult syllabus, some younger sailors may struggle to complete all skills, but will still enjoy the course.
